Yes, the finger is pointed in that direction but that does not constitute admission, let alone apology. History shows that apologies do not come until decades or even centuries have elapsed by which time the apology is nothing more than a gratuitous symbolic gesture that serves no one.

If and when an apology ever comes, I doubt very much that any of us living through the pandemic will still be alive. It might be writings such as this that survive and provide primary source evidence of how we as a global community felt maligned by a self-serving autocracy.
