I note that you have a PhD in Communication and so clearly you have an interest in the mechanics of language and linguistics. I do too. I'm a speech pathologist - I've spent decades working with language-impaired children. One of the common issues I've had to address with them is their overuse of non-referential language and here I am advocating for 'he' and 'she' without having first identified the referent! Ironic!!

I appreciate the time you've taken to engage in this discussion. It's been a valuable experience. I hope other readers and writers gain something from it too. :)
